This free Add-On allows GMs to decorate their area/regional maps with icons/symbols of a great variety of settlements and places of interest, ranging from cities, towns, and villages to forts, castles, and fortresses, and even things like mines, campsites, ruins, and taverns.

The Add-On is based on Blue Sword Games’ Map Icon set, and is used here with permission. GMs can use the icons on maps created with the Hex March Add-Ons, or on any map they import into MapForge as a Background Image.

The icons contained in this Add-On come in a minimum of four variants: the original black line art, white line art (for use on dark backgrounds), and at least two colorized versions (sometimes many more).

This Add-On is primarily intended for fantasy/medieval settings.

This Add-On is free for all MapForge users courtesy of Blue Sword Games. All artwork in this Add-On was either created by Mark (the artist behind Blue Sword Games), or derived from his work in some way (e.g., colorized versions and color mods).

Mark has been putting out lots of useful mapping content via this Patreon campaign, and (incredibly) making it available for free. Anyone (even non-patrons) can download most of what he produces, and there’s even a generous “small commercial use” allowance for his art. Most of the content is fantasy-themed, but there’s also some sci-fi content. And it’s not just mapping assets; there are also stand-alone maps, and even tokens for use in virtual tabletop software.

Hopefully some of you will consider supporting the Blue Sword Games Patreon campaign. Every dollar pledged will help Mark continue to produce great content, such as these nifty map compasses or this great Forts & Castles set. You might also want to check out Mark’s website, which has a great Gallery section, or his offerings on DriveThruRPG.

Installation instructions and other important information are in the PDF file which is included in the download.

Artwork Resolution (pixels per grid square): 300

Usage Tips: GMs can use the icons just as they are, or they can add filter effects to them in MapForge, such as Glows or Drop Shadows, to make the icons stand out more, or to achieve a particular feel/style. You could also make the symbols render in greyscale, sepia-toned, or whatever you prefer.

Place-name labels could be added to your maps in post-processing, using your image editor of choice (at least until MapForge gets a built-in text label tool).

Note: This product is only usable in the MapForge software (v1.0.9 or higher is recommended). It is not a collection of stand-alone graphics, but rather a single, copy-protected file whose content is only accessible to the MapForge software.
